Maternity

It’s not a secret that my favorite place for maternity sessions (besides Disneyland) is the beach. So, naturally I got really excited when Christina and Jesse contacted me about being their maternity photographer at Laguna Beach! We had a great session at the beach, where we found a nice little empty corner with gorgeous rocks and brush. These two made my job very easy; they are such a beautiful couple and you can tell just how excited they are to become parents!

Jesse and Christina are expecting their first baby, a boy, in July and I am beyond excited for them! It was fun talking with Christina about baby stuff (including everything they got at their TWO baby showers) as well as her adventures with pregnancy. One of the things that I loved most about these two was how easy they were to talk to and photograph. To this day, it amazes me how work never really seems like work, more like a hangout with old friends. Thank you so much Christina and Jesse for having me as your maternity photographer! I can’t wait to see what is in store for your little family!

Newborn Portraits – Canvas Newborn Portraits – Canvas

Babies, Cake Smash, Maternity, Newborns, Other

I’m really excited to introduce this new keepsake available for my Irvine newborn portraits! A few months ago, I decided that I wanted to offer my clients a premium display option for their beautiful newborn portraits, something that would seamlessly fit into any nursery or living space. Canvas Wall Art seemed like the perfect match! After careful consideration, I have chosen these beautifully crafted canvases as the wall art that will complete your home.

Hand-crafted, each canvas is made just for you with your favorite portrait in mind. All canvases are tightly stretched over a solid wood frame, complete with a black backing and hooks ready to hang. Your canvas is finished off with a beautiful matte texture which not only brings out your baby’s gorgeous, soft skin tones, but it also protects your art from scratches, fingerprints and sunlight. Matched with the new home design service, these canvases are the perfect display for your newborn portraits.

Maternity

I had such a wonderful maternity session with Chaitra and Naveen and I can’t help but tell the sweet story of how I became their maternity photographer! A few weeks ago, Naveen gave me a call wanting to book a surprise maternity session for his wife. He really wanted to get her something special for her birthday and remembered how she wanted to set-up maternity portraits but never got around to it. Naveen and I had a chance to meet-up for coffee and not only plan a surprise maternity session on her birthday, but we also reserved a newborn session for their baby too!

We had so much fun at their maternity session in Laguna Beach and it was such an honor to capture such a special moment for these two on Chaitra’s birthday. The weather was gorgeous, the light perfect and they were such a loving couple waiting on their baby to arrive. We had a little bit of an adventure at the end with the high tide, but the three of us were laughing it off at the end!

Here’s a little peek at this couple’s beautiful maternity portraits. I’m so excited for their newborn session on Wednesday!

What to Wear for Your Maternity Portraits What to Wear for Your Maternity Portraits

Maternity

The past few weeks have been amazing; I have had the opportunity to capture so many beautiful maternity portraits! As your Scottsdale maternity photographer, it is truly my pleasure to capture the beginning of your family’s journey and I love working with you to capture what makes your story unique. We will meet before your session to talk about every last detail so that your portraits come out just as you imagine them! We will talk about where you want to take your portraits, who you want to be in them, what style you like and one of the most popular topics, what to wear. So many of my clients come in worried about picking the perfect outfit for their maternity portraits and all I can say is… Please don’t stress over it! Wear what you are most comfortable in, the clothes that are YOU and your portraits will come out beautifully!

Here are some pointers I like to give my expecting mommas when choosing between favorite outfits:

Stick with solids and simple prints. Choosing an outfit that is aesthetically simple will shift the focus from what you are wearing to you and your belly. Geo-metrics and other complicated prints are often distracting and overbearing in portraits.

Neutrals and pastels are best. Neutral and pastel colors are the best options for the same reason as solids. Neutrals and pastels are subtle colors that complement your figure and skin tone, making for beautiful portraits.

Maternity Photographer 2 Choose something that is snug, but comfortable. For maternity sessions, it is really important that you wear something that is snug so that your belly really pops. Loose clothing makes it hard to see your baby bump and that’s what we want to highlight! Although your clothing needs to be snug, be sure that it is also comfortable. Many mommas choose to wear maxi dresses, linen pants or flowing skirts, but some love jeans too!

Plan for your undergarments. For each outfit, make sure you have bras and underwear that coordinate. This is especially important for sheer clothing.

Your shoes help complete your look. For a more relaxed, earthy feel, I recommend wearing sandals or going barefoot. Wedges and heels can be useful in elongating your legs and adding more of an edge to your portraits.

Hair, make-up and nails are important too! If possible, I recommend setting up a hair, make-up and nail appointment before your session. This is especially helpful for those that experience hair and skin changes with their pregnancy. Having a manicure, or well-polished nails, is important because your hands are often in focus holding your belly.

Coordinate dad and siblings. Pick out one or two outfits for dad and/or older siblings. Coordinate their colors and style with yours. Coordinating is best; don’t try to match everyone perfectly. For more intimate portraits of momma and her younger toddler, it can be beautiful to do some portraits with your toddler without a shirt or naked, tastefully covered up of course.

Last but not least, remember to have fun! Being pregnant is something you will only get to experience at one stage in your life and every pregnancy will be unique… let’s set up your portraits and have fun capturing such a special moment in your life!

Maternity

I had a great time yesterday with Laura and Jeff taking their Disneyland maternity photos! Disney sessions are some of my favorite because I get to meet other people who love Disney as much as I do! Laura and Jeff are definitely Disney-aholics and we clicked right away. I was really excited when Laura asked me to tag along on their trip and capture some maternity photos for them before their little one gets here. There’s nothing more exciting than a Disney baby on the way!

We had a great morning at the park. It was pretty busy, but we lucked out with some empty spots and captured some great portraits of these two. Some of my favorite images are from Snow White’s Wishing Well… these two got engaged there! I guess that Jeff had this plan where they would go over to the well, he would ask her to reach in his pocket for change to make a wish and she would pull out the engagement ring…except, instead of pulling out the engagement ring, Laura pulled out change like she was asked to! Hehe, she had no clue he was proposing and didn’t know that she was supposed to find something else other than change in his pocket. The proposal didn’t go as planned, but I think it makes for an awfully cute story!

One other thing you should know about these two (especially Jeff) is that they LOVE Goofy. We had the chance to wait in line to see Goof at California Adventure (and I must say, his outfit over there is spiffy!) and Goofy was delightfully surprised when he saw Jeff’s arm…
